Community leaders in Misrata, alongside military leaders and civil society organizations, said they reject any political settlement that reproduces Libya’s crisis or paves the way for figures named in UN reports over corruption or human rights violations. They stressed that any solution must be based on a clear constitutional framework backed by international guarantees that preserve Libya’s unity and sovereignty.
The remarks came during a meeting with US senior adviser Massad Boulos and his accompanying delegation. During the meeting, Boulos explained that Washington has not yet put forward a written initiative but is instead holding consultations with various Libyan stakeholders to develop a shared vision.
Participants welcomed the US role in supporting peace, provided that Libya’s sovereignty is respected. They reaffirmed their commitment to a civilian state, broader participation in any political settlement, and ending the transitional period through free presidential and parliamentary elections based on a constitutional framework, leading to the reunification of state institutions.
